One Hundred Years of Solitude

Today I have finished reading One hundred years of solitude for the fourth time.I never get bored while reading this magnum opus work of Gabriel Garcia Marquez. It is a work of genius.Marquez amazed me by this work, every sentence in this book is an art.The book is full of mysteries and laughter, love and sex, romance and passion, massacres and births, people who have same names, flying carpets, Sanskrit, alchemists, wars, women who live to hundred years of age, bastards, failed and flourished businesse. It is my first experience with magical realism.
"One Hundred Years of Solitude" is about the House of Buendia, both literally and figuratively. We follow six generations of the Buendia family, each a faded echo of the previous one, with the house itself as an additional character of sorts: it too changes and evolves and degrades over time. It's a massive, sprawling narrative that goes backwards and forwards in time.I read the english translation,Gregary Rebassa done a brilliant job by this translation.

It's a beautiful, heartbreaking novel, one that blew my mind repeatedly. A must-read.I feel that this novel is one of the best I have read so far. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a life changing novel.

Religionless Jeevan

Hi,
I am posting here the controversial part of the so called social science text book of Standard VII in Kerala. The objectionable content the people are referring in the text book actually are the values of secularism.Instead of protesting against this non issue, the protesters show similar enthusiasm in other issues that effects common man like fuel price ,high rise of price in essential commodities ,and about the content of media that malign the youth mind,it will create a responsible society.

Eat Fish and Live Long

Recently a study reveals that eating fish reduce our Cholestrol level.DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) is a substance that found in fish reduce cholestrol, prevent aging and thrombus.DHA is the most abundant essential fatty acid (polyunsaturated fatty acids, PUFAs) in the brain and retina. It comprises 40% of the PUFAs in the brain and 60% of the PUFAs in the retina. 50% of the weight of the neuronal membrane is composed of DHA.It is becoming popular among American people to consume fish in their daily meals. In the cafeteria of the University of San Diego, students eat sushis for lunch instead of meat which is said to be the source of obesity.DHA is found in very small amount or zero in live stolk animals like beaf, goat, pig etc.So stop eating beaf, mutton to live long and for good health.Provide a good place in your diet with foods prepared by fish.It is both economical and healthy

Sound of Music - The hills are alive

The Sound Of Music

Yesterday I saw the film The sound of music again. It is one of my all time favourite.I don't know exactly howmany times I have seen that film.I think I have seen it more than five times but I never get board.I never forgot the acting of Julie Andrews as Maria and Christopher Plummar as Captian Von Tropp. The film gives me a feeling that I have been in Salzburg, its beautiful landscape and the music. If I were a millionair the first Europian country that I would have visited will be Austira. What should I say about the film........her singing is wonderful, the alps are wonderful, the songs are memorable, and the story line never gets boring.I strongly recommends anyone who have never seen that film,If you have a chance to see the film you never miss the opportunity. The film will give you a wonderful experience. In that film Captian have seven children and they have beautiful names, after that I always thought If i had seven children What name I will give them I am clueless,I will definitely seek help from others.I am posting here the title song and its lyrics.
The hills are alive with the sound of music
With songs they have sung for a thousand years.
The hills fill my heart with the sound of music
My heart wants to sing every song it hears.
My heart wants to beat like the wings
Of the birds that rise from the lake to the trees,
My heart wants to sigh like a chime that flies from a church on a breeze,
To laugh like a brook when it trips and falls
Over stones on its wayT
o sing through the night like a lark who is learning to pray.
I go to the hills when my heart is lonely,
I know I will hear what I've heard before.
My heart will be blessed with the sound of music
And I'll sing once more.

PARADESI

Today is sunday,I have a lot of free time so I am adding a new post to my blog.It is about the new film Paradesi by P.T.Kunhumuhammed.It is about the story of many muslims who are forced to live as paradesi in their own country. He is telling the story of many muslims ,they were employed in pakistan before independence that time pakistan was part of India, after independence they took pakistani passport to meet their both ends to live and most of them didn't know they will treat as paradesi in the rest of their lives when they took their passports. In my nearest place Tanur have the peoples like Moosa played by Mohanlal, they are trying to avoid deportation from India. They born and brought up in Keralam but they went to pakistan for looking greener pastures, eventually their sacrifice for their family made their life miserable.
In this film Mohanlal plays a remarkable role as Valiyakathu Moosa is one of such Paradesi,he was in India on one year visa and have to report on local police station on every month. He was supported by only his wife Ameena played by ShwethaMohan. His sons are living in a good standared of life but they hated him because every were they labelled as pakistan,Moosa can't even attend his grand daughters marriage. His son desided to conduct the marriage at his wifes house.Mohanlal plays three differnt stages of his life,he did all the three characters brilliantly.Kudos to P.T.Kunhumohammed for giving an opportunity to Mohanlay for showing his verstality in acting and made free from his boring supernatural characters.
The film shows the ugly face of our corrupt inhuman kearal police,I have a request to our Honourable Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishan, sir please take sringent action in our police department to change the inhuman attitude, and corruption make them as a model police force in India.
Usha ( Padmapriya ) Played the role of a freeland journalist, she is trying to bring the plights of paradesis,The story was narrated to her by so many characters such as Moosa,Khadeeja,Abdurahman Nafeesa etc.She done a good job.
The person who steals the show is Jagathi sreekumar he plays the role of Abdurahman, who mentally retarded due to the tortures from officials and police.
All the songs in the film are memorable, especially the song " Thattam pidichu....".The make up man pattonam rasheed have done a good job for the perfection of the film.
All other actors did their job well.I recommends this is a must watchable film

Guy Fawkes

Today I have read an article about the Guy Fawkes.I am interested in the story of Guy Falks, here in India we are not celeberating the Bonfire night celeberation .I have seen a filim which was related with Guy Falks, "V for vendetta" have you seen that film.I enjoyed the film very well I first heard the famous rhyme related to the Gunpowder plot by Guy Falks,I am quoting below that rhym
Remember remember the 5th of November,
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot
I am telling you about the story of Guy Falks.
After Queen Elizabeth I died in 1603, English Catholics who had been persecuted under her rule had hoped that her successor, James I, would be more tolerant of their religion. James I had, after all, had a Catholic mother. Unfortunately, James did not turn out to be more tolerant than Elizabeth and a number of young men, 13 to be exact, decided that violent action was the answer.
A small group took shape, under the leadership of Robert Catesby. Catesby felt that violent action was warranted. Indeed, the thing to do was to blow up the Houses of Parliament. In doing so, they would kill the King, maybe even the Prince of Wales, and the Members of Parliament who were making life difficult for the Catholics. Today these conspirators would be known as extremists, or terroristsTo carry out their plan, the conspirators got hold of 36 barrels of gunpowder - and stored them in a cellar, just under the House of Lords.
But as the group worked on the plot, it became clear that innocent people would be hurt or killed in the attack, including some people who even fought for more rights for Catholics. Some of the plotters started having second thoughts. One of the group members even sent an anonymous letter warning his friend, Lord Monteagle, to stay away from the Parliament on November 5th. The warning letter reached the King, and the King's forces made plans to stop the conspirators.
Guy Fawlks, who was in the cellar of the parliament with the 36 barrels of gunpowder when the authorities stormed it in the early hours of November 5th, was caught, tortured and executed.
It's unclear if the conspirators would ever have been able to pull off their plan to blow up the Parliament even if they had not been betrayed. Some have suggested that the gunpowder itself was so old as to be useless. Since Guy Fawkes and the other conspirators got caught before trying to ignite the powder, we'll never know for certain.
Even for the period which was notoriously unstable, the Gunpowder Plot struck a very profound chord for the people of England. In fact, even today, the reigning monarch only enters the Parliament once a year, on what is called "the State Opening of Parliament". Prior to the Opening, and according to custom, the Yeomen of the Guard search the cellars of the Palace of Westminster. Nowadays, the Queen and Parliament still observe this tradition.
On the very night that the Gunpowder Plot was foiled, on November 5th, 1605, bonfires were set alight to celebrate the safety of the King. Since then, November 5th has become known as Bonfire night. The event is commemorated every year with fireworks and burning effigies of Guy Fawkes on a bonfire.
Some of the English have been known to wonder, in a tongue in cheek kind of way, whether they are celebrating Fawkes' execution or honoring his attempt to do away with the government.
